Emily Lands of Palatka, FL

Daughter of
Leigh Anne and Chris Lands

Emily Lands is the oldest of three children to Chris and Leigh Anne Lands of Palatka, Florida. Emily is an honor student at Palatka High School and a Dual Enrollment Student at St. Johns River State College. She has served in several leadership positions in FFA and Jr. Cattlemen’s Association throughout her high school career, and currently serves as Secretary for the 2020-21 Palatka FFA Chapter as well as the Treasurer for the 2020-21 Putnam County Jr. Cattlemen’s Association. In addition, Emily is also a member of the Putnam County Fair Youth Advisory Committee. Emily also enjoyed spending several years of her high school career traveling the nation judging livestock as a member of the 2019 State Champion Putnam County 4-H Livestock Judging Team, who attended several national level competitions. She also spent the majority of her junior year volunteering at Shelton’s Veterinary Clinic in Interlachen, Florida. Emily spends her free time pursuing her passion for the livestock and beef industries by raising and showing numerous market steer and swine projects as well as many breeding heifers to help build her own show cattle operation.  Emily’s dad, Chris, grew up on the family’s potato farm and is still actively involved in the agriculture community through his work as an insurance agent with Bates Hewett & Floyd.  Many of Chris’s clients own logging operations in Florida and Georgia, and Bates Hewett & Floyd is an active member and long-time sponsor of SWPA, as was   Emily’s grandfather, Buddy Evans.  Coming from a multigenerational agriculture family, Emily has always been taught that hard work and dedication will enable her to excel at anything she does.  These life lessons have driven her to pursue her own experiences in livestock production.  As a result, Emily plans to attend Oklahoma State University to study Pre-Veterinary Animal Science to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine. It is with a humble heart that Emily accepts the 2021 Bart Allen Memorial Scholarship.
