Florida $1,000.00 Scholarship
Landon Conner is the 18-year-old son of Gannon and Amy Conner. He lives in Hilliard, FL, where he is a senior at Hilliard Middle-Senior High School. Landon has been an honor student all his school years, taking AP classes throughout high school and Dual Enrollment courses through Florida State College of Jacksonville since his junior year. Outside of the classroom, Landon has served as his class Vice President for the last two years, is a member of numerous clubs including Beta Club, National Honor Society, Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Landon completed the Youth Leadership of Nassau program in 2018 where he gained knowledge of his community problems, needs and solutions. He is also a member of the weightlifting team, achieving first place in his district and region for 2018 which lead him to placing 8th in the state. This season he is well on his way to achieving his goal of winning state for his weight class in 2019. As a member of First Baptist Church of Hilliard, he is active in his youth group and plays the guitar for the praise team. Having always had a passion for his country, Landon plans to serve in the GA Air National Guard while attending Georgia Southern University. He is uncertain of his career path at this time, but with his family deeply rooted in the logging business, he may very well settle in the woods one day. Landon’s father, Gannon Conner is a 4th generation logger and came from a long line of timber harvesters. Gannon began working in the woods before he could drive, at the age of 29 he entered a partnership with his cousin and started Deep South Timber. As of June 1, 2018, he now solely owns and operates TimberMaxx Logging. Dane Conner and JE Johns, both Landon’s paternal great-grandfathers, were logging before mechanization. His paternal grandfather Donnie Conner recently retired from his ownership of Johns & Conner Logging after almost 40 years. Both Donnie, along with Charles Johns (Landon’s great-uncle) were founding members and on the very first BOD for SWPA. On Landon’s maternal side, his grandfather Sidney Gowen is co-owner of Big John Trailers, another tie to the logging community. Landon is honored to receive this scholarship award in memory of Bart Allen. Bart holds a special place in the heart of his family, as Bart was the one to introduce his parents and set them up on their very first date. A dear friend, always loved and never forgotten.
Georgia $1,000.00 Scholarship
I am honored to have been selected for the Bart Allen Memorial Scholarship. My father, Mark Floyd, began in the logging industry in 1993, and founded Monroe Timber Company in 1995. Being raised with a father in the logging business has taught me many valuable lessons and has allowed me to observe how hard work and dedication can lead to great success. Specific character traits my father has, such as excellent time management, a hard work ethic, and a dedication to doing quality work have been pivotal elements in the prosperity of his business. Furthermore, I have learned that these characteristics are applicable in all aspects of life and can help to shape a well rounded and contributing member of society, which is what I am striving to become. I attend First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Georgia. As an honors student at FPD, I strive to follow the examples my father has set, such as managing time well, having a powerful work ethic, and striving to be the best I can be. I have also made use of these characteristics in my hobby of clay target sports. For the last few years, I have had the opportunity to compete on the state, regional, and national levels of clay shooting sports. Clay shooting has become a great passion of mine. Because I have worked hard in school and demonstrated excellent time management skills, I have been able to travel and compete in shooting tournaments across the country. Beginning in the fall, I will be enrolled in the Honors Program at Kennesaw State University, where I plan to major in biology and continue on to medical school to pursue a career in the medical field. Once again, I would like to thank the members of the SWPA for selecting me as the recipient of the Bart Allen Memorial Scholarship.
